Twomey's Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from their estate vineyards at their wineries in Napa Valley and Russian River Valley. The 2012 Twomey Estate Sauvignon Blanc has a light straw color with green highlights. It has an enticing nose of guava, honeydew melon, pineapple, custard apple, wet slate and lime zest. On the palate, it has a fruit sweet attack and a fleshy mid-palate that retains crispness due to perfect acid balance. The finish is long and focused, redolent of ripe tropical fruit balanced by citrus freshness.
2012 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from three family-owned estate vineyards. Two of these vineyards are adjacent to our wineries on Dunaweal Lane just south of Calistoga and on Westside Road in Healdsburg. 2012 is the first vintage for the third vineyard, Oakville Ranch Vineyard, located on our estate in Oakville. Calistoga has a continental climate, where the grapes enjoy warm daytime temperatures with exceptionally cool evenings. This allows the grapes to develop complex and interesting aromatics, while the cold nights retain crisp acidity which affords the wine great freshness and liveliness. This 12 acre site situated on well-drained rocky loams, delivers citrus and mineral characters and forms the core of the blend. It includes a six acre 30 year old parcel of dry-farmed vines. This element is complemented by the cooler Russian River site with its well-drained loams, which offers round, rich flavors of guava and granny smith apple and an unctuous mouth-feel derived from the fog-drenched valley below our Healdsburg winery. Our Oakville Ranch Vineyard in Oakville is on deep alluvial soils and offers citrus and melon characters that add complexity to the blend.
