Hemingway Rum Company, the makers of Papa's Pilar dark and blonde rums, has introduced a limited-release of 1,400 six-pack cases of a special-edition Sherry Finish in select United States markets. Inspired by Ernest “Papa” Hemingway, the award-winning rums will surely be of interest to offshore anglers, as they’re hand-selected from ports-of-call in the Caribbean, Central America and Florida.

A team of master blenders created the special-edition Papa’s Pilar dark with seven hand-selected rums up to 25 years old, which are both pot- and column-distilled. After solera aging in bourbon barrels, port wine casks, and Spanish sherry casks, the bold and complex rum was further aged in Spanish oloroso sherry casks for 30 days, creating a unique flavor.

The rum has a slightly dark amber color, with an aroma of caramel and a hint of sherry. The flavor profile has notes of brown sugar, oak, caramel, toffee, maple and an underlying nuttiness. It’s exceptionally well rounded and balanced, but not without personality. This has taken what was already a great rum and turned it into something else — a Pilar that’s richer, more full-bodied, and, well, sensational. The first thing I thought was, “wow.” In short, it’s a very strong contender for Rum of the Year, and a must for your rum cabinet. - Caribbean Journal
