Description

Buffalo Trace Distillery has announced the release of Colonel E. H. Taylor, Jr. Amaranth Grain of the Gods, a one-time-only special release straight bourbon whiskey that uses amaranth as the flavoring grain instead of rye. Other grains used in the recipe are corn (Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1) and malted barley.

Buffalo Trace describes amaranth as a grain similar to wheat that was originally cultivated by the Aztecs and known as the “Grain of the Gods.” They claim that inclusion of amaranth in the mash bill adds “a complex taste with subtle flavors ranging from a nose of butterscotch and spearmint, to a finish of pecans and dark berries.”
