Department 66, the inspiration for our namesake vineyards and winery, is located just two hours north of Barcelona in the Roussillon region of France. Using a blend of 80 – 100 year old vines, Dave Phinney produces red and white wines from grenache, syrah, carignan and mourvedre.
Golden straw in complexion with a tinge of chartreuse green on the rim, the wine perfumes with stone fruits, lemongrass, jasmine, and a hint of barrique. The entry is opulent and rich with a salty minerality and citrus peel frame, which transitions into a very textured mid palate of honeydew melon, meringue, key lime, and white peach. The 2016 Facade maintains its initial roundness and vapor with traces of vanillin oak and ultimately finishes with bracing tones of acidity to retain complete harmony.
