Description

94 points Robert Parker: "A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah aged in 40% new small barrels and 60% in foudres, the 2004 Gigondas Valbelle is superb. A big, floral nose revealing notions of blackberries, cassis, crushed rocks, and earth is followed by a wine with stunning concentration, good underlying acidity, ripe tannin, layers of fruit, and a superb texture. It should drink well for 12-15 years." (02/06) 92-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky violet color. Rich and ripe on the nose, with powerful scents of cassis, blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate. Large-scaled and round, with lush dark berry flavors and a compelling sweetness that builds with air. Closes on notes of dark berries and mocha. This possesses wonderful extract, and the fruit is pure and focused." (Jan/Feb 06) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Pure and driven, with plum sauce, currant and fig paste notes backed by hints of tobacco, spice and mineral. Long, structured finish. Drink now through 2011. 200 cases imported." (11/06) This wine is made up of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. It has the characteristic blackberry, blueberry, spice, violet, and minerality of the Gigondas appellation. This wine has been rated very highly: The 2001 vintage received a 94 from Robert Parker, and the 2003 vintage received a 95! This wine ranks with some of the greatest wines in the world. "If you have not yet tried the wines of St.-Cosme, you're missing the boat."-The Wine Advocate
