Growing up in Rutherford at the world-renowned Caymus property, Joe Wagner, was perhaps destined to follow the path of 4 generations of grape growers and winemakers before him. The passing of his grandfather, Charlie Wagner Sr., prompted a 19 year-old Joey to pursue winemaking as a career. His first winemaking venture, Belle Glos, took off and has become CA's most popular Pinot Noir brand. Joe's latest creation, Beran Zinfandel, is headed down that same path. It's Zinfandel for anyone who likes the rich Belle Glos, Meiomi and Caymus style.
Joey's expressive hyper-extracted winemaking style dazzled the wine community and shook up the industry with his inaugural release of Meiomi in 2009. With Zinfandel on his brain, (and often in his glass), Joey branched out and called upon some top vineyards in the state to help with his new project as he sought to push the limits and find the true potential of the Zinfandel grape in California.
