Elements is an intriguing blend of red Bordeaux varietals with a small amount of Rhone varietals included for their spicy and meaty characteristics. This wine is principally Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sourced from the Sonoma Valley, Knight’s Valley and Alexander Valley appellations, as well as Napa’s Carneros and Atlas Peak areas. The cooler regions of Carneros and Sonoma Valley provide great weight and density, while the volcanic rock mountain sides of Atlas Peak and Alexander Valley provide great fruit intensity. Winemaking Each vineyard block was hand harvested, individually fermented, and barrel aged so that Elements could be carefully tasted and blended. A combination of native yeast fermentations and extended macerations were used to increase complexity and the extractive body of the wine. A blend of French and American oak was used to produce the integration of French oak with some of the spiciness of American oak.
