Renegade Rum Company was created by the same genius behind Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte. This fascinating project seeks and bottles small-batch, exceptional rums from "essential" distilleries of South America and the Caribbean.
The Don Jose distillery began in 1936 in a garage, but has sine grown into a continuous still operation responsible for highly elegant rums. Renegade Rum Don Jose 1997 is matured for ten years in bourbon barrels, and finished in port wood. The result is a boldly aromatic spirit with notes of dates, cinnamon, apple, caramel, honey, and red fruit. The palate asserts the port presence with flavors of red berries, dried fruit, roasted walnut, and sweet spice. Only 1,390 bottles of this fine spirit were released.
