 About Estate:
Rosé wines have long been aquainted with the dog days of summer and provide a perfect backdrop to many of summer's greatest food fare. Working to overcome their tainted reputation of being super sweet, "intro" wines, a true Rosé is often off-dry to dry in nature and displays appropriate fresh fruit flavors that lean toward the strawberry and raspberry side of the fruit spectrum. About Varietal:
The 2010 growing season was ideal for producing a classic and elegant Rosé, as the cooler temperatures allowed for great aromatic freshness and acid development in the grapes. A cooler than average summer gave way to a few heat spikes and a later harvest. The longer growing season allowed the grapes ample time to develop rich flavors and concentration.
Named after Amparo Grange, lady of the Manor House at Stags’ Leap from 1941 to 1955, this wine embodies her style of gracious living and her love of life, family and friends. This wine is inspired by the classic dry rosés of Tavel in the Southern Rhône, and made from Grenache grown on a hot stony plateau in Calistoga. Maceration was completed in 24 hours, which makes this a true saigné, a traditional French approach to producing a Rosé wine. Cold fermentation followed in older neutral French oak barrels to capture the natural acidity from the grapes and preserve the delicate fruit flavors of the varietal. The wine was aged on the lees for four months before bottling in March.
The 2010 Amparo Rosé has a vibrant pink and blue hue that is evocative of its fresh aromas of raspberry and melon. Flavors of wild strawberry and pomegranate are complemented by notes of cream and a hint of caramel. Refreshing and crisp, its bright acidity and elegant finish make this a lovely way to celebrate any Spring or Summer evening.
