Product Notes:
According to the paperwork, it�s made from Carignan, and the wine shows that variety�s rustic, wild berry nature. It�s not terribly complex, but there�s something about the savory fruit, silky texture and dry acidity that captures the essence of ros�.

About Estate:
Carol Shelton, winemaker and co-owner of Carol Shelton Wines, has an impressive r�sum�. The wines she made during her 19-year term at Windsor Vineyards have garnered more medals in major competitions than wines made by any other winemaker in America, leading Carol to the title of "Most Awarded Winemaker in America" for 12 of the past 15 years.

In addition to the Most Awarded Winemaker title, Carol has also been honored with the titles of:

* Bon App�tit/Tchelistcheff Winemaker of the Year - 1993 * Jerry Mead's Winemaker of the Year - 1996 * Dan Berger's Winemaker of the Year - 1999

While getting her Enology degree from UC Davis, Carol worked with Ann Noble, the creator of the Wine Aroma Wheel. Once she had completed her education in 1978, Carol worked for Robert Mondavi Winery, Saltrams Wines in the Barossa Valley of Australia, and in 1980 at Buena Vista Winery, where she was mentored by the great Andre Tchelistcheff.

Carol's wines have been awarded so many medals that we would need pages and pages to list them. A few awards that Carol is most proud of:

* Golden Winery Award-California State Fair 1996 * Best Pinot Noir in California - California State Fair 1996 * Best Merlot in California - California State Fair 1996 * Best Cabernet Sauvignon in California - California State Fair 2000

Inspired by her passion for great Zinfandels, Carol served on the Board of Directors of ZAP (Zinfandel Advocates and Producers) from '94 to '98. She has also worked hard to advance the science of winemaking through her past positions on the boards of the UC Davis Trellis Alliance and the California Enological Research Association (CERA) and served as president of the latter association from 1996-97.

With the new millennium as stimulus for change, Carol left Windsor in early 2000 to pursue the dream of making her own ultra-premium wines, forming the Shelton-Mackenzie Wine Company with her husband, Mitch Mackenzie. Their goal is to create small lots from carefully selected vineyards, based on Carol's 22+ years of experience with grapes from all over California.

Carol also consults for several small wineries as the owner of Vincare Consulting, and is invited to judge at numerous wine competitions. She is based in Sonoma County, where she continues to pursue her passion to create wines that promise to make the Shelton-Mackenzie Wine Company and their brand, Carol Shelton Wines, one of the great Zinfandel producers of California
