Product Notes:
A blend of three clones grown here on the estate, this Syrah is ripe and focused, generous with its blackberry and white pepper aromas and flavors, which echo nicely on the firm finish. Serve with Cassoulet or any other rich dish.

About Estate:
Situated on the celebrated Foxen Canyon Wine Trail in the Santa Ynez Valley, Koehler Winery is located in one of California's most diverse and distinctive growing regions. The micro-climatic diversity on the 100 acre estate results in a superb quality of fruit, and Koehler's 30 year old vines are recognized as among the best in the Santa Ynez Valley and surrounding area.

When Kory Koehler acquired the property in 1997, all of the estate grapes were being sold to local wineries. Koehler soon recognized that some of the best wines in the valley were being produced with grapes harvested from their vineyards, and she resolved to launch her own winery and tasting room. From the start, Kory Koehler's vision was to create a world-class winery committed to making premium wines at affordable prices. Koehler began by turning the property over to one of the most skilled and knowledgeable vineyard managers in central California, Felipe Hernandez. Felipe painstakingly tends the sixty-seven acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Riesling, Syrah, Sangiovese, Grenache and Viognier.

In recent years, as the fruit achieved superlative expression, Koehler recognized the need to bring on a winemaker of impeccable credentials to match the quality of the grapes. Chris Stanton, one of Sonoma Valley's most respected winemakers, was appointed to head the winemaking operations at Koehler beginning with the 2005 vintage. Stanton's wines have received high praise from Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, and Wines & Spirits Magazine, and have earned numerous 92, 91 and 90 point ratings. Eric Asimov, chief Wine Critic for the New York times, rated a zinfandel crafted by Stanton first in order of preference over other zinfandel "icons". The diverse assortment of superior grapes grown on the Koehler estate, along with first-rate pinot noir sourced from top vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills, will allow Chris the opportunity to express his winemaking ability to the utmost.

Food Pairing:
Syrah/Shiraz wines tend to be spicy. As such, syrah/shiraz wines pair excellently with bold flavored meats such as peppered beef, BBQ, and sausages. Syrah/Shiraz wines also work well with spicy cusines such as Mexican and Cajun.

About Varietal:
Syrah originated in the south of France. These days, excellent Syrah is produced in California, Australia, as well as France. Many Syrahs (Shiraz in South Africa and Australia), are bold wines with intense flavors.
