Product Notes:
The grapes for this Santa Cruz Mountains Merlot came exclusively from Regan Estate Vineyards. The cool climate growing condition is responsible for producing an intense dark cherry and berry aroma in this wine. There is black pepper spice with hints of tobacco and menthol. The wine has firm tannins with a full mouthfeel and will continue to develop into the bottle for the next 3-5 years.

 About Estate:
Bargetto Winery has been in continuous operation since 1918. During prohibition, the proprieters farmed and sold fruit. When prohibition ended, the winery began producing wine for the wholesale markets. The winery continued through the 1940's, 1950's, and 1960's. In the 1970's, the winery completed a huge modernization project. These days, Bargetto is committed to growing grapes that do well in the Santa Cruz mountains. More recently, the winemakers have been experimenting with northern Italian grape varietals such as Dolcetto.

About Varietal:
Merlot-based wines usually have medium body with hints of berry, plum, and currant. Merlot has slightly lower natural acidity than Cabernet and generally less astringency, therefore usually a more lush mouth-feel. Earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon to mature in bottle, Merlot is held in higher esteem by wine drinkers than by wine collectors.
