This Gift set Includes 1 bottles of Dom Perignon Vintage 2002:“Fresh, crystalline, and sharp, the first nose unveils un unusual dimension, an aquatic vegetal world with secret touches of white pepper and gardenia. The wine then reveals airy, gentle richness before exhaling peaty scents. On the palate, the attack bursts forth, and matures into a sensual fullness that winds around itself, like a tendril of foliage. Notes of aniseed and dried ginger linger on the skin of fruit (pear and mango), more textured then ripe. The finish gradually unfurls and then settles smooth, mellow, all-encompassing.
Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Champagne 1993: Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame is a deep yellow-gold in color. The silky, full palate shows rich notes of honey and vanilla custard. The finish is long and smooth. On the nose this wine is exceptionally elegant. Dominant floral notes (mint and white flowers) mingle with hints of fresh fruit (citrus fruits, fresh almonds). As it undergoes aeration, riper notes of vanilla and nougat come to the fore, giving a pleasant roundness to the wine. With a finish that is extremely persistent and clean, mineral notes add force to this noble wine.
Although La Grande Dame is still a long way from its peak, this wine constitutes an aptritif of exception. True connoisseurs will arm themselves with patience and take great pleasure in drinking this champagne in a few years' time, once it has come to full cellar maturity.
Complex, soil-inflected aromas of redcurrant, cranberry, mint, nutmeg and earth. Big and creamy, but also intensely flavored and penetrating. Offers excellent backbone but seems a bit less full and deep than normal for this cuvee-no doubt a function of the '93 vintage. Impeccably balanced Champagne. Steely lemony acidity became more apparent with aeration. Finishes very subtle and long.Rated: 92 by Stephen Tanzer, Nov/Dec '00
