| Karlssons Gold Vodka 750ml 100% Swedish Potatoes |
Product Notes: Karlsson’s Gold is hand-made from a blend of seven varieties of virgin potatoes from the exclusive Cape Bjäre in the south of Sweden. It is meticulously distilled once, in an unfiltered process that conserves the inherent characteristics of the unique ingredients, producing a revolutionary concept – a vodka with natural taste. Savor it neat, on the rocks, or in a Martini. Or see how this connoisseur’s vodka will transform your favorite cocktails by adding taste.
Karlsson’s Gold Vodka (80 proof) is distilled from virgin new potatoes. These are young potatoes that haven’t developed the thick skin of a more mature potato. The nose on the Karlsson is creamy cocoa. It’s delightfully inviting and the kind of nose you’ll want to linger on before taking a sip. There are absolutely no fumes in the nose, with a rich creaminess that’s surprising for a vodka that has only been distilled once. The entry is soft and chocolatey with a cocoa flavor that matches the nose. Things get really interesting in the mid palate where the creamy cocoa notes get a roasted bittersweet chocolate undertone. This is joined with a subtle black pepper spice that carries the vodka on to the finish. The finish is long and flavorful but still somehow manages to be clean and classic. The nice spice picked up in the mid palate is the real centerpiece of the finish, and the roasted bittersweet chocolate notes are nice and subtle as they lightly linger on the palate.
Karlsson’s Gold Vodka is distilled in Sweden by “Master Blender” Börje Karlsson who is known as the “Father of Absolut”. We’re huge fans of Absolut Vodka, and Börje Karlsson has taken things to the next level here with a potato vodka that delivers flavor with finesse. Karlsson’s Gold isn’t the most inexpensive vodka out there, but it delivers a taste experience well in line with its asking price. Karlsson’s gold is simply delightful, with a wonderful taste that we’ve found ourselves craving, delivered in an exceptionally well-crafted way. 4.5 Star Rating Very Highly Recommended

About Varietal: Vodka is one of the world's most popular distilled beverages. It is a liquid containing water, ethanol purified by distillation from a fermented substance such as grain or molasses, and an insignificant amount of other substances: impurities and possibly flavorings. Except for various types of flavorings, vodka is a colorless liquid.
Vodka usually has an alcohol content of 35% to 50% by volume. The classic Russian and Polish vodka is 40% (USA 80 proof). This can be attributed to the Russian standards for vodka production introduced in 1894 by Alexander III from research undertaken by the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. According to the Vodka Museum in Moscow, Mendeleev found the perfect percentage to be 38. However, since spirits in his time were taxed on their strength, the percentage was rounded up to 40 to simplify the tax computation. At strengths less than this, vodka drunk neat (not mixed with other liquids) can taste "watery": above this strength, the taste of vodka can have more "burn". Some governments set a minimum alcohol content for a spirit to be called "vodka". For example, the European Union sets a minimum of 37.5% alcohol by volume.[1]
Although vodka is traditionally drunk neat in Eastern European and Scandinavian countries of the "vodka belt", its popularity elsewhere owes much to its usefulness in cocktails and other mixed drinks, such as the Bloody Mary, the Screwdriver, the vodka tonic, and the vodka martini.
